Repairs, upgrades at 603 First Street lot have yet to begin

MEDICINE HAT, AB — City administration are still working on a plan to develop the vacant lot at 603 First Street SE.

Council voted last May to spend $300,000 on the property, across from city hall.

Work was to include repaving the parking lot and add some beautification to the area. Self-watering planters would line the perimeter and new lighting would help brighten up the area.

Plans also included local food trucks, who could use the lot during downtown events and festivals.

Over the last year, little has been done on the lot, which has been called an ‘eyesore’ by many.

“It is actually coming forward to D and I, I think, in the next few weeks,” said Mayor Ted Clugston. “Because there’s a new council, there’s going to just be a check in.”

Once it comes back to council, Clugston said the project will go ahead, unless councillors reverse the decision.
