MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s not often one player can take over a team game like lacrosse, but that’s exactly what Medicine Hat Sun Devil Zack Wilson did on Saturday night.

The veteran netted eight goals in a 15-5 victory over the Rockyview Tier II Rage at the Kinplex, to help the Sun Devils snap a three-game losing streak.

Coming into Saturday’s contest, Medicine Hat was looking for a turnaround after losing their previous three matches by a combined score of 44-21.

Medicine Hat staked itself to a 3-0 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play, but the Rage scored a pair before the end of the period to only trail by a 4-2 count.

Wilson, with one goal already on the night, took over in the second period with a hat-trick in just over four minutes of action to put the Sun Devils ahead 7-4 after 40 minutes.

Closing out the match in emphatic fashion, the Sun Devils netted six goals over the final 10 minutes of the third period to clinch a 15-5 win over the Aidrie-based club.

Along with his eight goal performance, Wilson also added three assists in the win to finish his night with 11 points.

Izaak Loran and Aidan McLean were involved in most of Wilson’s goals, scoring six and five points in the win, respectively.

Meanwhile it was captain Damon Phillips and Daniel Drefs dishing the ball for most of the game, each adding five assists to their stat totals.

Improving their record to 3-4 on the 2018 season, the Sun Devils still sit in third place in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League’s South Central Division with six points.

An important divisional matchup for Medicine Hat goes on Sunday afternoon, when they wind up their weekend home stand against the Calgary Axemen at 3:30 pm at the Kinplex.
