MEDICINE HAT, AB — A new Flying J location is being built in Medicine Hat.

Pilot Flying J confirming to CHAT News on Monday it’s building a new truck stop on Saamis Drive Northwest. Construction crews have been on the site, preparing the space for the construction of the new store.

“We couldn’t be more excited to soon call Medicine Hat home,” said Stephanie Myers, external communications supervisor with Pilot Flying J, over the phone from Knoxville, Tennessee.

“We just took into consideration feedback that we received from our customers, as well as just the conveniences and the location when trying to figure out and plan out our network of stores so we can bring amenities and other positive contributions to the local community and economy.”

Myers says once construction is completed, the building will be approximately 6,000 square feet and will feature approximately 52 truck parking spaces, six diesel fuelling stations, as well as a CAT scale, four shower spaces for truck drivers, hot food offerings and laundry facilities.

“We’ll have full amenities for area residents and travellers, including professional drivers,” she said.

Flying J currently operates a fueling station in Brooks, and a Flying J card lock also operates on Lockwood Street in Redcliff. Myers says “she’s not aware” of any impacts the Medicine Hat location will have on the card lock location in Redcliff.

Pilot Flying J operates more than 750 fuelling stations and truck stops throughout the United States and Canada.

The company is aiming to be open in Medicine Hat by the fall.
