Fire advisory in place for County of Newell

BROOKS, AB — A fire advisory has been issued for the County of Newell.

The advisory, issued Monday morning, includes areas surrounding Brooks, Duchess, Tilley, Rosemary and Bassano. According to Alberta Fire Bans, the advisory has been issued due to conditions promoting quick fire growth, wind speeds exceeding safe burning conditions at times and grass not green enough to sufficiently reduce fire risk.

Under the advisory, fires are still permitted, but residents are reminded to use extreme caution and keep a close eye on fires.

In addition to the County of Newell, the County of 40 Mile and the MD of Acadia also have fire advisories in place due to dry conditions.

The fire restriction in Cypress County, issued on Monday, remains in effect.
