Medicine Hat CAO to retire in September

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat’s chief administrative officer Merete Heggelund is retiring later this year.

Heggelund confirmed the news to CHAT Television on Tuesday, saying her last day will be in September.

She joined the city in 2012 as commissioner of the corporate services division, and took over as chief administrative officer in 2014 following the retirement of Ray Barnard.

Heggelund says her decision to retire was a personal one, and is focused on spending time with family. She says she will be helping the city recruit its new CAO this year, and is hoping for a seamless transition.
