Worker released from hospital following Monday incident at CF Industries

MEDICINE HAT, AB — CF Industries says a worker taken to hospital following a small explosion on Monday has since been released from hospital.

The information was revealed in a news release from the company sent Monday morning. Details about any injuries to the worker, or the extent of injuries, was not released.

Emergency crews were called to CF Industries at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday to an incident involving a boiler on the site of the Medicine Hat plant.

According to Trent Bancarz with Alberta Labour, three employees were lighting a burner for an auxiliary boiler when the explosion happened.

Two of the employees were treated on scene, while the third worker was taken to hospital.

All individuals who were on site were accounted for.

The company says all appropriate local emergency response and government officials have been notified of the incident, and says an investigation will be conducted by the company in co-operation with appropriate authorities.

CF says the work site was secured following the incident and there were no offsite impacts. The plant remains in operation.
