VIDEO: County of 40 Mile declares state of local emergency due to overland flooding

COUNTY OF 40 MILE, AB — A state of local emergency has been delcared by the County of 40 Mile due to overland flooding in the region.

The flooding, caused by a rapid spring melt, has closed multiple roads in the region, turned fields into lakes and has kept residents on alert for any risks to their homes.

Roads closed as a result of flooding are listed below:

-TWP 74 between RR 123 & 125
-RR 125  between TWP 74 & 80
-TWP 84  between  RR 115 & 120
-RR 124 between  TWP 100 & 102
-TWP 104  between  RR 120 & 121
-TWP 104  between  RR 122 & RR 123
-RR 111 between TWP 94 & 100
-RR 101 between TWP 94 & 100
-RR 115 between TWP 100 & 102
-RR 122 between TWP 90 & 94
-TWP 92 between RR 121 & 123
-RR 105 between Twp 94 &  92
-TWP 92 between RR 104 &110
-TWP 50 Between HWY 879 & RR 113
-TWP 44 Btween RR 123 & RR 132
-RR 110 Between Twp 50 & TWP 52
-TWP 82 Btween RR120 & RR 121
-RR 120 Between TWP 90 & TWP 84
-TWP 74 Between 879 & RR 112
-RR 95 Between TWP 80 &TWP 82
-RR 105 BetweenTwp 80 & TWP 82

The county says during the duration of the emergency, the local authority may take any action it deems necessary to deal with the situation.

Crews have been out since Sunday attempting to break up ice blockages near the 40 Mile Reservoir.
