IRVINE, AB – A parent’s worst nightmare came true on Friday afternoon on a highway just north of Tisdale, Saskatchewan.

A bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team collided with a semi-trailer, leaving 15 people inside the bus dead and another 14 injured.

It’s an incident that has shaken communities and hockey organizations to their core, knowing that it could have been any of their teams.

For Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association general manager Kris Schultz it’s especially sombre news, growing up in the same Saskatchewan town of Strasbourg as Broncos assistant coach Mark Cross.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that Cross was one of the 15 people that lost their lives in the tragic crash.

CHAT News was able to speak with Schultz and local hockey parent B.J. Lang about how the tragedy is affecting the Medicine Hat hockey community.
