Ottawa says Lethbridge to get $13 million in transit funding

Apr 7, 2018 | 9:38 AM

LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge is included in a long-term transit funding announcement made earlier this week by the federal and provincial governments.

Lethbridge will receive up to $13,150,222 for what Ottawa said will be significant improvements to transit. Amarjeet Sohi, the minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and provincial infrastructure minister Sandra Jansen made the announcement of a bilateral agreement between the two levels of government. It commits more than $3.3 billion in federal funding for infrastructure over 10 years.

News releases were issued Friday, April 6 by both the federal government and the provincial NDP caucus, indicating how much individual Alberta communities are receiving. The NDP release indicates the money will be used by Lethbridge for “new urban transit networks and service extensions that will transform the way residents live, move, and work.”

It was not immediately clear how the City of Lethbridge intends to use the money.
