City to continue downtown electrical upgrades

Apr 3, 2018 | 1:47 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — City crews will be working to finish upgrades to the electrical systems downtown beginning this month.

The work, which began in June 2015, is scheduled to be finished by October. Alleyways from First Street to Fifth Street Southeast and South Railway Street to Fourth Avenue SE will be affected.

A city news release says customers will not experience any power outages through the projects.

Work will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, with occasional weekend work. The city anticipated there will be minimal impact from the work, but note large equipment will be manoeuvring in and out of various alleyways in downtown. Traffic accommodations will be made to safely guide motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The city adds minor closures and limited access to alleyways, sidewalks and lanes may also happen. Workers will make the best effort to maintain access to back alleyways.

Regular updates will be provided through the city’s website, its social media channels and construction signs in the area.
