MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police are still investigating after shots were fired in a home on Northlands Lane Northeast last Thursday.

Officers were called to a home on the street at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of a firearm being discharged. There were no injuries reported.

Police were looking for a black two-door mid-to-late 2000s car, which resembled an Audi. As on Monday, the car has not yet been located.

The Major Crimes unit is investigating the case, Staff Sgt. Trevor Humphries said they aren’t releasing a lot of details at this time.

“Some of the things that we discover, we can’t always share just for the integrity of the investigation,” he said. “Those are factors that our major crimes unit will be working to discover.”

Humphries said he was surprised a gun was fired in Medicine Hat, as these types of crimes are not common.

“I can’t really give a lot of detail about the investigation,” he said. “What I’ve seen as a history in Medicine Hat, this is not something that happens here.”

The investigation is still on-going and police are looking for the suspect and the fire arm. Humphries doesn’t believe the public is in danger.

“I don’t think the community at large is at risk from this incident,” he said. “If we do find that it is somewhat of a random event we certainly would notify the public.

Staff Sgt. Trevor Humphries with the Medicine Hat Police Service spoke with CHAT News on Monday, providing the latest update on the investigation.

More to come.
