DAUPHIN, MB — Ty Lewis found his scoring touch at a critical time for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The assistant captain scored a pair of goals in a 5-3 Wheaties victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night at Credit Union Place — their first victory of their Eastern Conference Quarter Final series.

Medicine Hat remains in control with a 2-1 series lead, but is now guaranteed to host Game 5 Friday night at the Canalta Centre (7:30 p.m.).

Brandon’s victory snaps a nine-game playoff losing streak to the Tigers dating back to 2011.

Tigers captain Mark Rassell opened the scoring with his fourth of the playoffs 5:16 into the game. But Lewis locked the contest 1-1 with just nine seconds to go in the opening frame.

Connor Gutenberg gave the Wheaties their first lead of the series 3:00 into the second period. Gary Haden squared the contest at 2-2 midway through the frame, his second of the post-season. Jaeger White’s first career playoff marker came early in the third, regaining the Tigers lead at 3-2.

But the Wheat Kings quickly regained the lead with a pair of markers 18 seconds apart by Ben McCartney and Evan Weinger respectively.

Medicine Hat mustered 16 shots on Wheaties goaltender Dylan Myskiw in the final frame, but White tally was the only one to stump the Winnipeg product. Making his first start of the series, Myskiw made 32 saves in the victory. Logan Thompson, who started the opening two games, did not dress in Game 3. Rookie Ethan Kruger served as Myskiw’s back-up.

Lewis scored the insurance marker with 1:42 remaining in the game.

Jordan Hollett stopped 28 of the 33 Wheat Kings shots fired his way, while Rassell and White each left Game 3 with a two-point performance. David Quenneville notched a pair of helpers in the loss.

Medicine Hat will look to return to the win column tomorrow night, taking on the Wheat Kings in Dauphin for Game 4 at 6:30 p.m. MST.
