Travel conditions poor in southwest Saskatchewan

Maple Creek,SK. – The system that brought rain to our area overnight has moved eastward  and there’s some impact on travel.
 
At 7:30 am CST, Saskatchewan’s highway hotline shows the Trans Canada highway has winter driving conditions from the Alberta border east to Maple Creek, with slush and heavy snow from Maple Creek to Piapot.
 
Winter conditions also exist from Maple Creek south towards the Cypress Hills provincial park.
 
In Alberta, 5-1-1 shows the 41 North from the Golden Prairie Road to Oyen as snow covered. The 41 south from Elkwater to the U.S. border is also snow covered.

Clearing is in the forecast today.

Travel is not being recommended between Gull Lake and Swift Current this morning.
 
Saskatchewan’s highway hotline says that section of the highway is subject to icing, with swirling and drifting snow.
 
Conditions from Alberta to Maple Creek are shown as winter driving conditions but the road is wet and subject to freezing.  Further east towards Gull Lake, conditions deteriorate, with icy and slushy sections and heavy snow.
 
Travel north from Maple Creek to Fox Valley – and south towards the Cypress Hills is also subject to icy and slush sections with heavy snow.

Conditions have improved in southwestern Saskatchewan – and an advisory against travel on the Trans Canada highway from Gull Lake to Swift Current has been lifted.
 
The road is still slushy and icy, with swirling and drifting snow as of 11:15 this morning.
 
Seasonal driving conditions exist from the Alberta border to Gull Lake.
 
Winter conditions are shown for Highway 21 north from Maple Creek to Fox Valley and south to the Cypress Hills.
