MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat is one of six communities which could benefit from a rural transportation pilot project announced in Budget 2018.

The Ministry of Transportation has set aside $1 million for a pilot project for bus routes, following an announcement from Transportation Minister Brian Mason at the Rural Municipalities Association of Alberta meeting on Wednesday.

The project will help connect rural communities by bus near Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Camrose, Red Deer and Athabasca. It is in response to the closure of several rural bus routes in recent years, and was an election promise from 2015.

Details about the bus routes are not known. Communities are currently submitting applications for routes, and the successful ones are expected to be revealed in April.
