Man facing stolen property and drug charges after tools stolen

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A 53-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly stealing tools from a welding truck in the city.

Medicine Hat police received a complaint regarding theft of tools from a truckin the 800 block of 14 Street Southwest. The tools had an estimated value of $7,000.

On Thursday, police identified a suspect through video footage and found him living in a motel in the 800 block of Gershaw Drive Southwest. Members of the priority street crime unit arrested the man in his suite. A search warrant was executed, which led to the tools being recovered.

Police also seized approximately 600 grams of cannabis with a street value of $6,000.

Chad Raymond Orchyk, 53, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance. Orchyk has been released on $2,500 no cash recognizance, and he is due back in court on April 5.
