MEDICINE HAT, AB – Job seekers and employers getting the chance to network on Wednesday at Medicine Hat College.

Close to 50 businesses were on hand for Medicine Hat College’s annual Job Fair, which attracted both students and the general public in search of jobs.

This was the eighth year the winter Job Fair has been held, with businesses offering a wide range of full-time, part-time, and summer positions.

Traffic was steady throughout the day, as the College is estimating over 1,000 people visited the booths.

Health care, criminal justice, security, and trades employers saw the most foot traffic and resumes throughout Wednesday.

Career Advisor Shelly Drefs said this event helps to shed light on non-traditional career paths for graduating students.

“A lot of times students will think, ‘I’m not sure who to apply for,’” said Drefs. “They’ll make assumptions about one industry or one organization, but they don’t realize they actually have a host of other opportunities that are available.”

Drefs added a great example is the Calgary Board of Education, who were advertising IT and accountant positions, along with their standard teaching positions.

For those unable to attend Wednesday’s Job Fair, a list of open positions have been posted on Medicine Hat College’s website.
