MEDICINE HAT, AB – Just two games remain on the regular season schedule for the Medicine Hat Can Pak Environmental AA Hounds and the team seems to be peaking at the right time.

Winners of three of their last four games, the Hounds were back at the Kinplex on Sunday afternoon for a key divisional meeting against the Taber Golden Suns.

Taber led 1-0 after the first period, but the Hounds exploded for four goals in the middle frame to jump ahead by a 4-2 count.

Carson Dingwall and Levi Schlosser added goals in the third period for Medicine Hat, giving the Hounds a big 6-3 victory to close out the weekend in style.

Schlosser and Aiden Gleisner each had three-point games, while nine Hounds contributed on the score sheet with at least one point.

Head coach Randy Wong said he’s seen his forwards buy in to the offensive system and it’s producing results on the ice.

“We’re finding that we’ve got different guys contributing, we don’t really rely on one guy,” said Wong. “So, by committee we kind of score our goals and we’ve been scoring quite a bit lately. So, it’s been really good that they’re working well as a team and that’s kind of what we’ve been pushing for.”

Dawsen Savage had a strong afternoon between the pipes for Medicine Hat, making25 saves on Sunday to earn his 11th win of the season.

Schlosser said over the last few games, the Hounds have really been able to gain steam in the second and third periods.

“I think the first period we wait it out,” said Schlosser. “And then in the second and third period, we know we have to get to work, get on top of them, and bury our chances as much as we can.”

Jumping over the Golden Suns into third place in the South Conference, the Hounds hold a record of 19-13-1 with two games left before playoffs.

It will be a battle for seeding in the south, as the Hounds, Golden Suns, and Wheatland Chiefs are all separated by just three points entering the final week of the regular season.

Wong said the team is learning how to develop a winning culture, something that will be needed when playoffs arrive in a few weeks.

“That’s our 19th win of the year, so they understand it now and they know what it’s like to compete,” he said. “You’re going into the third period, you got a chance to win a hockey game, they’re having more success this year. We got some good hockey players here, so we’re pretty happy with it.”

Big playoff implications for Medicine Hat’s last two games, which will be held at the Kinplex against Wheatland on Friday at 7:15 pm, and the Foothills Bisons on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
