RCMP searching for truck involved in alleged assault near Bassano

BASSANO, AB — RCMP in Bassano are asking the public in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan to be on the lookout for a truck which may have been involved in an alleged assault on the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.

According to a news release, at 10:10 a.m., RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a woman being assaulted by a man outside of a pickup truck on the west shoulder of the Trans Canada Highway near Duck Lake Road. The complainant reported seeing a man assault a woman and then push her into the passenger side of the pickup truck. The man then got into the truck and drove away. The truck was last seen heading north on Township Road 220.

Bassano and Brooks RCMP made extensive patrols of the area, but have not yet located the truck or its occupants. The information has been passed to all southern Alberta and Saskatchewan police agencies.

The truck is described as a newer model black extended cab pickup truck with a chrome brush bar. The truck was described by the witness has having a partial Saskatchewan licence plate of “4NY”

The man is described as a Caucasian male in his 40s. He has an average build, a moustache and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

The woman was described as being in her 30s, with long blonde hair and was wearing a light coloured top or dress.
