Medicine Hat’s Acton wins second gold medal of Alberta Winter Games

WOOD BUFFALO, AB – Another golden day on the slopes for Medicine Hat snowboarder Jasmine Acton, winning her second gold medal of the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

On Sunday, Acton won gold in the female U16 slopestyle event to go along with her gold she won the day before in female U16 boarder cross.

Two more medals coming out of Medicine Hat for Zone 1 were won on Sunday, with the Callan brothers getting things done on the wrestling mat.

Dylan Callan won a silver medal in the male 83+ kg division, while his brother Aayden earned a bronze in the 83 kg event.

Also in wrestling, Hannah Kozakewich from Dunmore picked up fourth place in the female 46 kg division Sunday.

Taber speed skater Carson Love finished just off the podium in the 11-12 T2T 1 male team relay with a fourth place finish, while he netted a 12th place finish in the male individual race.

The mixed doubles badminton team of Triston Duchscherer from Medicine Hat and Lexie Waldbauer of Walsh ended their tournament in seventh place on Sunday.

A fifth place showing for Zone 1 locals in female volleyball, while the zone’s female ringette team ended their Alberta Winter Games in sixth place.

In the overall medal count, Zone 1 remains in seventh place with seven gold, eight silver, and 11 bronze for a three-day total of 26 medals.

Topping both the games in both gold medals (30) and total medals (54) is Zone 3 out of Calgary.

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games wrap up on Monday in the Wood Buffalo region.
