10-year-old girl killed following ski accident in Pincher Creek

PINCHER CREEK, AB — A 10-year-old girl has died following an accident at Castle Ski Resort on Tuesday.

At 11:30 a.m., Pincher Creek RCMP and Emergency Services responded to Castle Ski Resort after receiving a report of a skier that had suffered serious head injuries.

The girl, who was on a school ski trip with Canyon Elementary School, lost control while skiing and struck a pole. She was wearing a helmet at the time.

Due to the poor weather conditions, the girl was transported via ground ambulance to Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. RCMP learned at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday that the girl died from her injuries.

RCMP are assisting the medical examiner in investigating the death and Victim Services is engaged with the family of the deceased, as well as students and staff at Canyon Elementary School.

The identity of the deceased is not being released.
