Brock Janzer eliminated at squash tournament

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Local squash player Brock Janzer has been eliminated from the 2018 Ralph’s Texas Bar Open.

Janzer, who is ranked 250th in the world, was eliminated in the first round by seventh-seeded Baptiste Masotti of France in straight sets (7-11, 8-11, 2-11) Thursday night.

Masotti, who is ranked 83rd in the world, advances to play Egypt’s Youseff Soliman, who is ranked 51st in the world, tonight at 6 p.m.

Janzer was not the only Canadian eliminated at the tournament on Thursday. Jake Hooker was defeated by Mexico’s Alfredo Avila in straight sets (2-11, 3-11, 4-11).

Two Canadians remain in the tournament. Shawn Delierre, the second-seeded played in the tournament, won a five-set marathon against Ondrej Uherka, (8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7). Delierre battles the other remaining Canadian in the tournament, fifth-seeded Andrew Schnell, tonight at 8 p.m.
