Party President Rick Dykstra’s resignation the latest shakeup among Ont. PCs
TORONTO — The turmoil continued at Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party on Sunday, with party president Rick Dykstra announcing his resignation just hours after a major internal shakeup was revealed.
In a post on his verified Twitter account Sunday evening, Dykstra announced he’s stepping down after nearly two years in the position. His resignation also followed that of Patrick Brown, who quit as party leader last week amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
“It has been a wonderful experience to watch the party’s renewal,” wrote Dykstra Sunday night. “And over the next couple of months, we will see the party coalesce around a new leader.”
It will have to coalesce quickly. The Tories had been widely favoured to unseat Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals in a provincial election set for June — but that was before Brown’s departure and the upheaval that followed.
