BROOKS, AB – It was an avalanche of offence as 14 different Brooks Bandits (30-11-1) got at least a point in a 10-1 domination of the Olds Grizzlys (15-26-1) Friday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.

The win was the Bandits’ third in a row, as forward Louis Jamernik (Calgary, AB) had a four point night, including his first AJHL hat-trick, while goaltender Connor Dochuk (Edmonton, AB) made 21 saves in his Bandit debut.

After a scoreless opening 11 minutes, the Bandits struck first. Jamernik accepted a feed from debuting teammate Mack Hancock (Kingston, ON) and stuffed a backhand shot home past starting goalie Branden Bilodeau. However, Olds responded just over a minute later as forward Josh Borynec pounced on a rebound and scored on the powerplay to make it 1-1.

With 1:19 left in the first, Brooks re-took the lead. Defenceman Jakob LaPointe (Leduc, AB) set up Pierre-Anthony Martineau (Sherbrooke, QC) in the right circle, who shot the puck on net. The rebound came to forward Simon Boyko (Mississauga, ON), who poked in his 13th of the year.

The second period was all Bandits. Less than four minutes in, forward Conner Jean (Oakland, MI) one-timed the puck from the right half-boards on the powerplay for his team-leading 21st goal to make it 3-1 for the home-side. Nearly two minutes later, Brooks went up 4-1 thanks to a top-shelf snipe from defenceman Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) on the rush.

The Bandits weren’t done. With under nine minutes to go, LaPointe one-timed in a Matt Cassidy (Medford, NJ) pass for his 4th of the year, extending his goal streak to three games. Brooks made it 6-1 just over two minutes later as forward Nathan Plessis (Salmon Arm, B.C.) took a pass from Jamernik behind the net, who found the Bandit forward in the slot. Plessis fanned on his first shot, but jammed the still-loose puck into the Grizzly net. The goal chased Grizzlys starter Bilodeau, who went 23 for 29. Sam-Jaxon Visscher came in as his replacement.

Less than a minute later, defenceman Dennis Cesana, who had a four point night, scored on a tipped-point shot to make it 7-1. Then, with under three minutes to go, the Bandits lit the lamp again, this time on Jamernik’s second of the night, a wrist shot from the right circle set up by Jean on the rush.

Brooks had 21 more shots in the third period, and two got through. Jamernik’s hat trick goal came with under nine minutes to go as he wristed home a loose puck from the slot, while forward Jake Theis (Chanhassen, MN) scored from the high slot with less than six minutes to go to make it Brooks’ first double-digit output of goals of the season.

Brooks outshot Olds 55-22 in the game, going a perfect 1 for 1 on the power play and 1 for 2 on the penalty kill.

The Bandits will go for their 4th win in a row on Saturday when they host the Camrose Kodiaks at the Centennial Regional Arena. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.brooksbandits.ca
