MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Casey Scheidegger rink booked their ticket in the 1-2 page playoff at the 2018 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Friday night.

Facing the Val Sweeting rink in the ‘B’ bracket final, Scheidegger fell behind by a 2-0 score after the first end to Sweeting.

That seemed to spark the Grande Prairie/Lethbridge rink, as they rattled off four points over their next three ends to take a 4-1 lead.

Sweeting battled back in the seventh end to close the gap to 6-5 with a single, but Scheidegger made great use of the hammer in the eighth to add another three points.

Down by two points in the tenth end, Sweeting needed a pair to extend the match but was only able to pick up a single, giving Scheidegger a 9-8 victory and a spot in the playoff round.

That sets up a battle between Scheidegger and the Chelsea Carey rink at 6:30 pm on Saturday, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s championship final.

Also on Friday evening, the Delia DeJong rink captured a 7-6 victory to eliminate the Geri-Lynn Ramsay rink out of Calgary in the ‘C’ bracket.

She’ll face defending champion Shannon Kleibrink in the ‘C’ bracket final at 1:00 pm on Saturday, after Kleibrink ousted Lacombe’s Marla Sherrer rink with a 6-2 victory.

It was a tight 6-5 victory for the Laura Crocker rink from Edmonton on Saturday, as they eliminated the Nadine Scotland team in the ‘D’ bracket.

Crocker will now take on the Sweeting rink in the ‘D’ bracket final at 1:00 pm, with the winner moving on to face either DeJong or Kleibrink in the playoff stage.
