Police continue to investigate leads on bank bomb threats

Dec 8, 2017 | 2:18 PM

MEDICINE HAT – Local police are continuing an investigation into a series of bomb threats that began on October 27th.

Police have responded to four bomb threats since October 27, and determined they were all hoaxes.

Investigators released audio of the person believed to be responsible for the threats. Since then, several tips have come in from the public, but they have not led to any charges.

“The bomb threat investigation is still alive, we still are receiving tips from the public,” said Sergeant Stacey Kesler. “We found that it was very helpful releasing the audio, but it also generated a lot of different leads that we have to work through.”

Most of the threats targeted the Servus Credit Union on 8th Street in Crescent Heights.

One of them included a suspicious package in front of the bank, which prompted the explosive disposal unit to be called in to dispose of the item. The package was described by police as an “unsophisticated mock explosive device.”

The most recent threat was November 9th against the CIBC on 8th Street NW. Police evacuated the building and later determined the threat was a false alarm.

Investigators believe the bomb threats are likely all linked, but they have not established any connections yet.
