MEDICINE HAT, AB — One of the two men accused in the New Year’s Eve homicide of Jordan Pede is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Medicine Hat for the next three days.

Luke Boxell is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat provincial court on Wednesday, with his hearing scheduled to last until Friday. Boxell, along with Leonard Beaulieu, are each facing one charge of second-degree murder in the death of Jordan Pede.

The hearing will determine if there is enough evidence for Boxell to go to trial. Details of the preliminary hearing are under a publication ban.

Pede, 21, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Strathcona Island Park on New Year’s Day. He was airlifted to Calgary hospital, where he died 11 days later from his injuries.

Boxell, 22, was arrested on January 25. Beaulieu was arrested in Manitoba on February 13 following a Canada-wide warrant.

Boxell was released on $10,000 cash bail with strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest in Manitoba with family. He is only allowed in Medicine Hat for court appearances.

Beaulieu, 25, remains in custody. An application for bail was denied in September.

Beaulieu’s preliminary hearing for his charge is scheduled for Dec. 13-15 in Medicine Hat.
