MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College Rattlers and community supporters meeting on Saturday for a special evening in the hopes of benefiting future Rattlers down the road.

The Rattlers’ first ever ‘Jingle & Mingle’ event was held at Medicine Hat College, with a sold-out crowd of over 300 in attendance for the fundraiser.

The event was put on in the hopes of raising funds for the Rattlers scholarship program, with money from ticket sales and a silent auction supporting the student-athletes.

It was an extremely successful first event for the Rattlers, as they raised around $22,000 for their scholarship fund.

Manager of Sport and Wellness Terry Ballard said these events are vital to attracting quality student-athletes to the College.

“We want to get good student-athletes that are good obviously on the field, that can perform with the teams,” said Ballard. “We want them good in the classroom, we want them good in the community. So, this allows us to get a few more dollars that we can attract those student-athletes that we really want to attract.”

Members of various Rattlers teams were on hand for the gala, with many players assisting with the valet parking, coat check, serving water, and other activities.

Ballard said the connections that the student-athletes form with members of the community are as important as the fundraising that goes on.

“We want to raise dollars, but the other part of it is to get the community out, to celebrate what the College does, and what the Rattlers student-athletes do.”

A big announcement was also made by President and CEO Dr. Denise Henning, as the College is launching a new capital campaign called ‘Generations East.’

Ballard said the goal of the campaign is to raise money for new athletic facilities for future Rattlers to enjoy.

“We need a bigger place, we need newer facilities,” he said. “But at the same time, it’s tied into the health sciences wing, which we need more classrooms and need more lab space. And that’s the idea, is to tie academics in with athletics and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Rattlers basketball and volleyball teams are off for the Christmas break and will return to the court in early January.
