Check stops remove drunk drivers from Medicine Hat roads

MEDICINE HAT, AB. – The holiday check stop campaign by Medicine Hat Police began over the first weekend of December, with four people being charged with various offences.

Members of the Medicine Hat Police teamed up with RCMP and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to check 1389 vehicles coming through the check stops.

– One male was charged with Impaired Driving and Exceeding 0.08.
– One male was charged with Impaired Driving, Exceeding 0.08 and Careless Storage of a Firearm after he was found in possession of a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest.
– One male was issued a 3-day licence suspension for driving with his blood alcohol between 0.05 and 0.08. 
-One male was charged with driving with an inactive licence.

– Five motorists were also placed on a Roadside Screening Device and passed.

Police also issued 12 warnings for vehicle equipment violations and three warnings for Liquor Act violations. The check stops will be continuing throughout the holiday season to deter drives from getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
