TORONTO — A Calgary architecture company with a Medicine Hat connection has won a national award for their work designing the Medicine Hat Tigers’ dressing room at the Canalta Centre.

Spectacle received a Best of Canada award in the institutional category at the International Interior Design Exposition in Toronto on Thursday. The event is the largest design and architecture expo and conference in Canada.

The company, which was founded by former Medicine Hat resident Jessie Andjelic, were involved in the design of the dressing room and operations space for the Medicine Hat Tigers’ dressing room and retail space at the Canalta Centre.

The design included foyers, a meeting room, new offices for the coaches’, a fitness room and video review room, among other elements. The room was finished in time for the recent season.

Speaking over the phone from Calgary, Andjelic says both her team and the Tigers were impressed with the final product.

“I think the final result is even better than what we imagined,” she said. “There are some really beautiful spaces and really special spaces that we hope the team will kind of take on and make their own.”

Stantec and ISL were involved in the technical side of the design, while EllisDon was the primary contractor.
