PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — The Medicine Hat Tigers unloaded with six goals in the third period, including three-point performances from Max Gerlach and Ryan Jevne in a 7-4 victory on the road against the Cougars Tuesday night.

Medicine Hat has now won six of their last seven, improving their record to 14-7-0-0 to lead the WHL’s Central Division by seven points over the Kootenay ICE.

These two will battle again Wednesday night, the first pair of games in a four-game B.C. road swing for the Tigers which will wrap up with stops in Kelowna and Kamloops this weekend.

Medicine Hat found the scoreboard at the 5:25 mark of the first period with Ryan Chyzowski’s ninth goal this year. But the Cougars clawed back with a pair of markers from Vladislav Mikhalchuk and a single tally from Kody McDonald to lead 3-1 at the end of the first period.

After a scoreless second frame, Jimmy Hamblin found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the third.

That kickstarted a flood of goals for the Tigers, including captain Mark Rassell on the powerplay, along with Tyler Preziuso, Max Gerlach, and Ryan Jevne. Following the sixth goal of the game, Cougars netminder Tavin Grant was replaced by Taylor Gauthier. Grant allowed six goals on 32 shots.

Brogan O’Brien notched a final goal for the Cougars with just over five minutes to play, but the damage was done far too early to mount a comeback. Jevne’s second goal of the night came with 15 second remaining on an empty net.

Not to go unnoticed was the work out of the Tigers penalty kill unit. They turned aside all six Cougars power-plays, with Jevne’s first goal of the evening coming shorthanded.

Tigers netminder Jordan Hollett turned aside 26 shots to earn his eighth win of the season. Medicine Hat will likely look towards Michael Bullion taking the pipes Wednesday in their second match of a double-header in Prince George (8:00 p.m. MST).

*An earlier version of this story published James Hamblin as scoring two goals. The scoresheet was recently updated to show Hamblin as scoring one goal, and Mark Rassell scoring one goal.*
