Man and woman facing charges after arrest at Rebels game

RED DEER, AB — Fans at the Red Deer Rebels game Saturday night may have noticed a larger than normal police presence.

RCMP arrested a man and woman at the game after security asked them to remove a woman staff believed to be highly intoxicated and who was refusing to leave the building.

Although the game had already ended, Mounties say many people were still in the building when police approached the woman. She is accused of resisting both security and RCMP verbal requests to leave and then striking, kicking and struggling repeatedly with one of the officers while being placed under arrest. At that point, her male companion tried to intervene and was also placed under arrest.

RCMP say the incident required additional officers to attend in order to restrain the suspect who was apprehended without injury but not before two of the officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

A 21-year-old woman will face charges of assault on a police officer, two of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, uttering threats and mischief. A 27-year-old man will face two charges of uttering threats and one of mischief.

Their names have not been released as their charges have yet to be sworn before the courts.

Both are slated to appear in Red Deer court December 19.
