CanWest to officially provide air ambulance service in Medicine Hat beginning in 2018

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat will be receiving a new air ambulance provider in 2018.

According to a letter dated November 1 included in the agenda for Monday’s city council meeting, Alberta Health Services has selected CanWest Air to provide long-term service out of Medicine Hat, replacing Integra Air.

The company expects to be operational in Medicine Hat on April 1, 2018, and has already completed arrangements to secure hangar space at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport.

“We understand that this decision will ultimately result in a change of provider in your community but please rest assured that CanWest has a proven track record of delivering high quality air ambulance care in Alberta and we are confident patients will be very well served by this decision,” writes. Darren Sandbeck, Senior Provincial Director and Chief Paramedic with AHS

The contract is in place for 10 years. CanWest also offers air ambulance service in multiple communites across Alberta.

According to the letter, the agreements provide patient support in several ways, including scheduled low risk transfers, dedicated urgent response aircraft, specialized bariatric aircraft for larger patients and new and improved planes to accommodate patients, equipment and specialty teams for neonatal and pediatric transfers.

Integra Air will continue to run its air ambulance service in Medicine Hat until March 31.
