INTERVIEWS: Scharnatta, Rattlers gaining ground in ACAC

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Three weeks are down in ACAC volleyball action, and the men from Medicine Hat College appear poised to have another run at a provincial title.

The Rattlers have launched to a 5-1 record, and hold a CCAA rank inside the top 15.

But head coach Mark Porter doesn’t want to get too ahead of himself. Although he says the Rattlers offence has been every bit as powerful as expected, it’s taking his players a while to pick up on a new defensive system.

That system is sure to be put to the test this weekend, as the Rattlers play host to the defending national champion Red Deer College Kings, who also boast a 5-1 record.

The last time these two teams squared off was in the gold medal game of last year’s ACAC Championship — a marathon match which lasted all five sets, ending in heartbreak for the Rattlers.

CHAT Sports caught up with libero Kreggan Scharnatta, who’s entering his second year playing for MHC, to hear his thoughts on the start to the season, along with what’s sure to be a tough test at the Snake Pit this weekend. Plus, Porter explains some of the finer details he’d like his players to improve on.

The men’s and women’s team from MHC take on the Kings and Queens from RDC, beginning Saturday at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend home stand on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
