MEDICINE HAT, AB — The South East Athletic Club (SEAC) Tigers are prepared to give back to the hockey community this weekend.

The team is hosting SEAC Day this weekend, where members of the Bantam AAA and Midget 15 teams running practice for local Timbits hockey players this weekend.

“They take on the role of coach,” said Lon Bosch, board chair of SEAC. “We give the coaches a day off, and our SEAC players will interact with those little guys.

“The goal is to get those little players in our club six to seven years down the road.”

Bosch says the players teach the kids skating, shooting and puck handling during the practice, with players cycling through several stations.

“We introduce new drills every year to keep it fresh,” he said. “The bottom line is to have our players interacting and helping the little guys learn the game of hockey.

This is the third year SEAC Days has been held, and Bosch says there has been lots of positive feedback from parents and players.

“Our parents, they really enjoy watching their sons – and daughters in the past – help and guide those little guys,” he said. “It’s just nice to see that our kids are able to take some life lessons and take on that leadership role that we think they can do.”

A total of 13 Timbit teams from Medicine Hat and Irvine are participating in the event.

SEAC Day runs from 7 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. at the Hockey Hounds Arena.

Both SEAC teams are also in action on Saturday. The Bantam AAA Team hosts the northwest Calgary Flames at 2:15 p.m., while the Midget 15’s host the Calgary Canucks at 7:45 p.m.
