National Energy Board predicts fossil fuel flatline in two decades

The National Energy Board says in two years, it predicts Canada’s consumption of fossil fuels to run cars and heat homes will max out, decline slightly and then flatline over the next two decades.

For the first time, the board’s annual energy futures report is predicting an end to the country’s growing demand for fossil fuels, citing climate change policies and growth in clean energy.

However, the board says the drop in fossil fuel use will not affect economic growth, forecasting wind energy production will double and solar energy production will more than triple over the next quarter century.
