Wheatland County declares state of emergency due to fires near Gleichen

GLEICHEN, AB — A state of local emergency has been declared in Wheatland County as a result of several wildfires near Gleichen.
The community of Gleichen and surrounding areas, including Carseland, are being evacuated. Reception centres are located at the Strathmore Civic Centre (120 Brent Boulevard) and at the Standard Community Hall at 150 Yorick Avenue. The Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore is being set up as a reception centre for pets.
Firefighters in Gleichen continue to work to get the blaze under control.
