Empress and Acadia Valley ordered to evacuate due to fire

ACADIA VALLEY, AB — Residents of the MD of Acadia Valley and Empress have both been ordered to evacuated due to grassfires.

Residents of Acadia Valley have been ordered to evacuate to the Oyen Legion, as the fire continues to move east.

The Village of Empress has also declared a state of local emergency, and residents are being evacuated to the Bindloss Community Hall. According to a RCMP news release, the fire has jumped the South Saskatchewan River near Empress.

Highway 41 is closed south of the intersection of Highway 570 as a result of the fire.
