REDCLIFF, AB — After nearly three decades on town council, Dwight Kilpatrick is ready to serve Redcliff as its mayor

Kilpatrick, who has served on town council for 28 years, is now mayor-elect of Redcliff following Monday night’s election. Kilpatrick received 92 more votes than Ernie Reimer, who was elected for his first time in 2013.

“I’m very pleased that the results came in the way they did, I look forward to the next four years,” he said on Tuesday. “I’m grateful to the people who I had helping me out and the people that endorsed me and the people who wished me luck, and hopefully, I won’t let them down.”

Kilpatrick said he spent election night on Monday, waiting for the results to come in. He finally found out close to 11:30 p.m., after the ballots were counted.

He says he will likely be sworn in next week, and he says his council experience will likely help lower any learning curve in the position.

“Having 28 years on council, I don’t believe the transition will be a large one,” he said.

Incumbent councillors Eric Solberg, Cathy Crozier, Larry Leipert and Jim Steinke will return to the council table, joined by newcomers Shawna Cockle and Chris Czember.
