UPDATE: Power restored in Crescent Heights

Oct 17, 2017 | 8:42 AM

MEDICINE HAT, ALTA- Residents of northeast Crescent Heights were without power this morning.

According to a notice issued by the city’s office, around 2,800 people were impacted by the outage. The outage was confined to northeast Crescent Heights, says Donna Brinkworth, communications officer with the city.

The outage was caused by a tree blowing into a powerline, says Brinkworth. The power was out for almost one hour, before being restored shortly after 9 a.m.

A wind warning is currently in effect across Medicine Hat and the surrounding area.

The strong winds are expected to exit into Saskatchewan this evening and to diminish overnight in Alberta.

Due to the high wind, Brinkworth says the city landfill is not accepting light loads today, such as leaves or other items which could blow away. Heavy loads are still being accepted. Brinkworth says the city will inform residents when lighter loads will be accepted at the landfill again.
