MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat will not play host to a major hockey tournament next year.

In a news release sent Tuesday, the bid committee has learned they were not selected by Hockey Canada to host the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

“While disappointed, the bid committee is also pleased with the feedback received to date and the encouragement from Hockey Canada to consider bidding on the 2019 event,” the press release reads.

The tournament involves eight hockey teams, three from Canada and five international teams including the USA, Finland, Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic. This year’s tournament will take place in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C.

The bid for the 2019 challenge is due by November 15, 2017. The bid committee says they are going to look at the feedback received by Hockey Canada to fine tune their bid, and will submit it once again to host the 2019 event.
