Rattlers women’s basketball team takes down Vikings in Lethbridge

 LETHBRIDGE, AB – A strong close to the pre-season for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team on Saturday, picking up a win over the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.

Playing in a weekend tournament at Lethbridge College, the Rattlers were coming off a 77-65 loss to the St. Mary’s University Lightning on Friday.

The Vikings came out of the gates strong with a 19-16 lead after the first quarter, but the Rattlers responded in a big way in the second with 23 points, taking a 39-34 lead into the half.

From there, the Rattlers played some of their best defence of the pre-season, limiting Augustana to just five points in the fourth quarter and 17 points the rest of the way, picking up a dominant 91-51 victory.

Starter Kendall Kuntz continued her torrid pace in exhibition play, scoring a game-high 23 points with a trio of three-pointers.

Kennedy Weere also had a solid morning for the Rattlers, going 8-10 from the field with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

The regular season begins on October 20 for the women’s team, squaring off against St. Mary’s in Calgary.

As for the Rattlers men’s team, they face the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in Barnwell, which will a rematch of Thursday’s night’s 92-58 Pronghorns win at Medicine Hat High School.
