MEDICINE HAT, AB — City crews are currently on the scene of a water main break in the 500 block of Spencer Street Southeast.

Crews have shut off the water main, which will affect residences and businesses west of Marshall Avenue Southeast up to and including the Canada Post on Kipling Street. A total of five homes in the area had their water shut off.

Brian Graham, field operations manager with the city's environmental utilities department, says the leak was reported at noon, and was a result of an older pipe breaking.

Graham adds detours are being set up from Third Avenue Southeast to Kingsway Avenue to allow crews to repair the line safely. He says they're aiming to have it repaired by Saturday afternoon.
