MEDICINE HAT, AB – The tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas and the chaotic rampage in downtown Edmonton over the weekend, sent shock waves across the world.

Insp. Tim McGough, Medicine Hat Police said he was shocked when he heard of both events over the last few days.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all those people that were affected or impacted by what happened in Alberta and the tragic event that also happened in Las Vegas,” he said.

The risk of any threat to the Medicine Hat area is very low, explained McGough.

“There is no intelligence to suggest that there is any immanent threat to any venue by any persons in Medicine Hat,” he said.

Police are asking residents to remain vigilant. McGough said if anyone sees something suspicious to contact police.

“We don’t care if they’re wrong or not, we’ll check it out and hopefully they were wrong and it was nothing and no safety issues. But we’d rather err on the side of caution and go and check out anything,” he said.

Premier Rachel Notley took the opportunity to address the recent event in the capital city over the weekend.

“I am confident in the efforts of law enforcement officials to keep our province and secure. Alberta we must stand together,” she said.
