‘Run for a Cure’ had 300 participants out despite the cold weather

MEDICINE HAT, AB. – The CIBC Run for a Cure took place at Echo Dale Regional Park on Sunday, October 1, 2018. The event saw 300 participants for the 1KM and 5KM runs.

Nicole Murphy, Site Lead said this is the 2nd year hosting the event in Medicine Hat and she was very happy with the turn out.

“We were able to raise $33,000 today and that number is still growing as the donations continue to come in,” she said. 

Jessica Dirom, Canadian Cancer Society explained that participants today are survivors, family members, friends, colleagues and community members who want to show their support and help the fight against breast cancer.

“Runs and participation in events like this are incredibly important, because it helps us invest money in cancer care, life saving treatment, research and there are 17,000 people who get diagnosed with cancer each year in Alberta,” she said. 

1 in 8 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time Dirom explained, and self examination of breasts is very important.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Society has raised over $410 million dollars to help aide in cancer research.
