Inmate dies at Bowden Institution

RED DEER, AB – A 66-year-old inmate at Bowden Institution has passed away.

Correctional Service Canada says George Florkowski died while in custody on Thursday.

Emergency services were called but he could not be resuscitated, according to a statement released Friday.

Officials say Florkowski had been serving a life sentence for Second Degree Murder since September 23, 2005.

His next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
