Eight local athletes to represent Team Alberta at Special Olympics Canada next year

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Eight local athletes have qualified for Team Alberta and will represent the province at Special Olympics Canada competitions next year.

The majority of athletes who qualified are bowlers. Mitchell MacDonald and Chuck McDonald will represent Alberta in 10-pin bowling, while Sinjin Soper, Liam Carter, Rylan Kersey, Brydon Marchand and Blair Yuhas will compete in 5-pin bowling.

Christine Sullivan is also going to the games, and will compete in powerlifting.

All qualified as a result of their performance in the Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games, which were hosted by Medicine Hat from July 7-9.

The eight from Medicine Hat are among 135 athletes who will compete under the Alberta banner during the Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships and the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. The bowling championship runs May 13-17 in Prince Edward Island, while the Summer Games run from July 31-August 4 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
