MEDICINE HAT, ALTA- After making his intentions known earlier in 2017, Mayor Ted Clugston will kick off his re-election campaign this evening.

A 10-year member of Medicine Hat city council, Clugston is finishing out his first term as the mayor. In announcing his official campaign kick-off, Clugston pointed to what he described as improved recreation facilities in the city, as well as the construction of berms and new fire halls to improve ‘safety and security’ in the community.

“I am often quoted as saying we want for nothing,” said Clugston, in a news release about the campaign.

“We have the lowest unemployment rate in Alberta and are predicted to be the leader in growth going forward.  I want to see this through. Now that we have created the environment for business to invest and their employees to live we need to keep encouraging economic growth and the wonderful lifestyle Medicine Hat provides.”

Clugston was also excited about the newly-announced move to produce and refine helium, undertaken by the energy division of the municipal government, which he indicated was a possible ‘return to profitability’.

“The helium play could have interesting and far reaching ramifications,” said Clugston.

“We could monetize some of these finds and place the money in the newly established Medicine Hat Heritage trust fund”.

The official campaign kick-off will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, at Clugston’s mother’s home at 650 Prospect Drive SW.
