MANDATORY EVACUATION for everyone in Waterton Lakes National Park

WATERTON LAKES NP – There is now a mandatory evacuation order in effect for Waterton Lakes National Park, including the townsite, as issued by Parks Canada at 1:47pm Friday, September 9.

The evacuation order has been issued because of the approaching Kenow fire.

Residents and visitors from Waterton Lakes National Park should go to the reception centre at the Vertical Church on 1200 Ken Thornton Blvd. in Pincher Creek to check in for information.

Instructions are for EVERYONE in Waterton Lakes National Park, including the townsite to evacuate immediately. Take all necessary precautions and avoid the area. Visibility will be affected. Highways 5 and 6 and the Chief Mountain Border crossing remain open.
