Express Vote machine to be used for advance polling in city election

MEDICINE HAT, AB. – The city of Medicine Hat is testing a new electronic voting machine for the upcoming municipal election. The Express Vote, is being used to cast ballots for advance polls beginning on October 7, 2017.

The machine has a touch screen,  braille console, headphones for audio reading of candidates names and contrasting screens allowing voters to cast their ballot regardless of disabilities.

The City Clerk, Angela Cruickshank, hopes it will increase voter turnout.

“It provides a private and independent way for people to cast their vote and keep their vote secret” she explained.

Cruickhank said if the poll is receives positive feedback, the city plans to have the machines at each polling station in the 2021 municipal election.

The city of Red Deer is also testing the Express Vote machine for there advanced poll.
