MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service and Alberta Sheriffs have shut down a drug house in the Flats.

The home, located at 1170 Bridge Street, is the subject of a Community Safety Order, which was issued on August 24. According to court documents, the order gives law enforcement the authority to close the property as of noon today.

Law enforcement are scheduled to board up windows and fence off the property, keeping it closed until December 4th.

This is the second property that has been shut down under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act. The first house, located on Aberdeen Street, was closed in September 2016 and once again in May.

Police arrived on scene shortly after noon to begin the closure of the home. The owner and all occupants have been told to vacate the property.

According to a news release from the provincial government, the investigation into the house began in October 2016 in response to complaints from residents of the neighbourhood. The investigation included extensive surveillance of the home, during which SCAN observed evidence of drug activity. The evidence and intelligence gathered by the Medicine Hat Police Service allowed SCAN to obtain the Community Safety Order.

Medicine Hat police had previously made several drug seizures and arrests at the property.

Following the closure, the property will continue to be monitored.
